CONTROLLER, Chico, California

 

A rapidly growing Chico-based food processing company is seeking an energetic, flexible, and hands-on Controller.  The Controller manages the accounting functions of the company including general ledger accounting, month-end close, budget preparation, cash monitoring, banking payroll, inventory, database maintenance, and reporting.

 

Morrison & Company is the only authorized recruiter for this position.  All offers will be contingent on a background check.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide guidance to functional managers and support personnel.

  • Supervise AR, inventory, AP, payroll, order processing.

  • Prepare budgetary estimates.

  • Manage assets, credit and collections, and cash.

  • Track inventory from raw goods to finished materials.

  • Monitor daily open orders and inventory positions.

  • Maintain bills of material, track UPC coding.

  • Manage banking and borrowing

  • Prepare weekly payroll and corresponding 401k transactions.

  • Approve and post transactions to general ledger

  • Prepare AR sales/cash receipts/credit & debit recaps balancing to aging & general ledger.

  • Prepare journal entries and review trial balance.

  • Prepare internal financial statements and review with owners.

  • Prepare external financial statements as required.

  • Create numerous reports, including but not limited to sales, brokerage, and tax.

  • Manage Great Plains user access, training, and reporting, and maintenance.

 

Experience requirements and preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

  • Four or more years experience in a role with similar duties and responsibilities.

  • Experience with inventory concepts and procedures.

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, and Word.

  • Great Plains experience preferred

  • Experience in food processing and distribution preferred.

  • Ability to grasp larger picture without losing sight of accuracy and detail.

  • Proven record of flexibility and success in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

  • Ability to juggle many tasks and priorities.

  • Working knowledge of budgets, reporting, and financial statements.

Compensation:

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, Sacramento Area, California

 

An expanding, grower-owned biotech/marketing firm in the Sacramento area seeks a Chief Financial Officer to help guide its growth. 

 

The CFO directs and oversees all the financial activities of the Company and its subsidiaries, including one in South America.  Functional areas of responsibility include accounting, treasury, financial reporting, taxation, financial planning, human resources, and the information technology function.  This position reports directly to the President/CEO.   It would be a good position for either an experienced CFO or an experienced Controller ready to make the transition to CFO.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and present consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements

  • Evaluate acquisition opportunities

  • Manage the annual financial planning processes including budgets, the business plan, and the long range plan

  • Internal controls, including coordination with external auditors

  • Manage assets, credit and collections, and cash

  • Manage all financing relationships

  • Provide leadership to the finance department and foster strong communications and teamwork between finance, operations, and sales and marketing

  • Partner with the President/CEO and other members of the leadership team; provide advice and counsel on a wide range of issues facing the business

  • Risk management functions including insurance and foreign exchange exposure

  • Oversee operations and accounting for wholly owned subsidiary in South America

  • Evaluate tax planning opportunities and oversee issuance of annual state and federal income tax returns

  • Provide financial analysis for various business proposals as needed in the areas of production, pricing, sales and capital management

 

Requirements:

  • Ten years or more relevant experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or finance

  • CPA preferred but not required

  • Experience with grower-owned cooperatives preferred

  • Experience in biotech and/or agribusiness preferred

  • Experience with foreign subsidiaries preferred

  • Experience with foreign currency management preferred

  • Experience with corporate acquisitions preferred

  • Spanish a plus

  • Flexibility.  Must be able to assume multiple roles as needed

  • Ability to work with a diverse executive team, employees, and the company’s grower-owners

  • Demonstrated  leadership skills

  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.
