Position:  Controller

 

Location:  Butte County, CA

 

Reports to:  CEO

 

Primary duties:

Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.  Provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, budget management functions, tax compliance, and internal/external reporting. Duties would include:

  • Perform and/or oversee daily operations of the accounting department including recording all transactions and maintaining the accounting records, monthly reconciliation of accounts, tracking inventory and assets, and monthly financial reports.

  • Direct and coordinate company financial planning, including budget management functions.

  • Monitor cash flow requirements including cash flow forecasts.

  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.

  • Manage banking relationships and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments.

  • Monthly and annual reporting of revenues, transfers, expenses and other activities to the parent company and third parties as required.

  • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product and investment decisions.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.

  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives. 

  • Tax compliance, working with outside advisors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory responsibilities:

Supervise accounting staff, one to two individuals.

 

Other duties:

Other administrative duties as assigned.

Knowledge and skill requirements:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  Knowledge of cost-accounting including material and production costs, costs of sales, etc. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Word.

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a similar field.

  • A minimum of three years professional post-college work experience with progressively greater responsibilities.

Salary commensurate with qualifications.  Benefits include medical insurance and 401(k) plan with company match.
